Internet | Accessibility Audit

Introduction

Website Accessibility refers to the ability of people with disabilities to use the Internet or Intranet. It is an area of increasing concern to organisations for a number of reasons including financial, moral and legal. The Usability Company is deeply involved in helping organisations meet their obligations with regard to accessibility and provides a range of services for this purpose. The key questions organisations are asking themselves can be summarised as follows:

Is your organisation aware of its' obligations under the Disabilities Discrimination Act (DDA) for website Accessibility?

Are you aware of the massive potential client base that want to, but cannot, buy your goods and services?

Does your organisation recognise its' moral obligation to shareholders, employees and customers for providing access to all?

An Accessibility Audit will help you understand what you need to do to your website in order to meet your obligations.

The Process

A Usability Specialist will carefully scrutinise your website using automated tools and walkthroughs to determine instances where accessibility guidelines have been violated. Each of the violations is given a priority rating; indicating how immediate the need to resolve is.

A report is compiled detailing each of the violations that have been identified; where the violation occurred; how it causes accessibility problems; a priority rating (indicating how immediate the need to resolve is), and a recommendation to solve the violation. If required the specialist can work very closely with a design team to rectify the problems very rapidly.

The benefit of an Accessibility Audit from The Usability Company is that we can build into the project a focus on usability also. Meeting the accessibility guidelines does not automatically mean your website will be usable and by combining our knowledge in both areas we can ensure your organisation has the best of both worlds.

To find our more about accessibility and how it effects your organisation, or if you would like to schedule an Accessibility Audit please call or email us.
