The page-level options that allow users to choose where they wish to go within the site. There are common navigational elements across sites:
Global navigation is (/should be) consistent across a site; it allows users to browse hierarchically among content areas.
Utility navigation is also consistent across a site and allows users to access search and supplemental browsing tools.
Local navigation changes between content areas; they allow users to browse hierarchically within a content area.
Contextual navigation is typically embedded in the page content, i.e. hyperlinks, which allow users to navigate to related areas.
